Can we edit the terminology of the socialize template ie the word like and the word friends can we write in our own terminology .

Those words are from the Jomsocial language files so you can easily use the Joomla language override feature or manually edit the language files. In our product there are files placed on the Joomla language directory

EG:
COM_COMMUNITY_COVER_LIKE_EMAIL_SUBJECT="{actor} liked cover {photo}."

you can change "liked cover" for example to what ever you wish
