Hello,

Before I buy I need to know the answer to this question:

Is it possible to install on the same server, same domain name, both, OpenCart and Joomla with Jomsocial and users only register on OpenCart?
In other words, can I set jomsocial to verify the user in the same data base where OpenCart registers users?
It would be weird to have one website with two sections (shop area and community area) where users have to register twice.
Also, I don't want to use other ecommerce solution but OpenCart. They all seem to me very ugly and buggy.

This is my only concern before buying jomsocial.

Thank you in advance and congratulations for this wonderful script and community!

Later edit: Sorry if this question was asked before. I'm running low on battery and I can't spend anymore time reading topics.

Kind Regards,
Catalin

Hi Catalin,

I am not familiar with open cart but just having a quick look it is not a joomla component so the answer to your question would be no unless you get a developer to hack the products and make open cart write the information into the joomla user table. There maybe a bridge like PHPBB has but im not sure

Thank you Paul!

Do you think it's possible to change the address where jomsocial verifies user names and passwords with the address to the OpenCart's database by changing the php files? Or any chance that when a visitor decides to make an account in OpenCart, that account would be duplicated and written both in OpenCart sql and jomsocial sql?
I really need this option. It's very frustrating for a visitor to register two accounts. One to buy something from the shop and one to be able to interact with the members of the community.
I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world needing this. And jomsocial is way better than buddy press, besides I don't like wordpress! I want to work with joomla.

Thank you!

Hi Catalin,

I think this would be the solution wouldn't it? www.opencart.com/index.php?route=extensi...%20opencart%20bridge

this looks like a bridge between open cart and Joomla.

Hello Paul,

Thank you very much for your interest in helping me and also your time.
I know that product. That's not what I need. I have a beautiful OpenCart template and I don't want to integrate OpenCart products in a joomla website. I only need a solution to merge users data base so I still have my website that opens with OpenCart and serve my need for a commerce platform and then I would have a button that takes you to the community area, that's a joomla with jomsocial. If you are logged in on OpenCart, then you should be logged in on jomsocial also.

Thank you again for your support, time, energy and kindness!

Hi Catalin,

I did some Googling :) Here is where i got to and i think if you follow this path you will get to what you want to do.

1. I installed Joomla 3.3.16
2. I installed opencart 2 and during the install i set it to the same database as the joomla install but used the default Opencart prefix oc_ to avoid any issues with table name conflicts
3. i then installed jfusion, i have used this before as a bridge for different things to sync user tables. It works great
4. I installed the universal plugin for jfusion and got very close to getting it to work but came up short (using just settings)
5. i then used the petashop plugin and hacked some code so that it suited Opencart table names. Due to time constraints i got very close to getting it to sync the Opencart user with the joomla user table and from what i found looking through the plugin code it would not be hard for a developer to make some very small changes to get this to work

What this would give you
1. A joomla site
2. Opencart as a subdirectory. /opencart
3. jfusion has the ability to disable joomla registration and you can force the signup page urls to be Opencart instead of Joomla or Jomsocial (some using settings, some using hacks)

when a user visits your site to purchase in Opencart they would register using Opencart, jfusion would sync the users information, and they would be able to browse the joomla site as a registered user. How jomsocial works is it uses the joomla user table. If a user is a Joomla user (jfusion sync) then they are a jomsocial user. The customer that signed up using Opencart can navigate to joomla and jomsocial as a registered user.

I spent a few hours on this to see how far i could and i got the method worked out but i am not a developer, from my experience i can see this would be possible with some average coding. I don't beleive this would be a big job at all

The direct question that you need to ask a developer is "i need a plugin written for jfusion that will sync opencart users to the joomla_int plugin, Because there is a plugin for petashop already for jfusion looking at the code, which is what i hacked i would think this would not be a big task for a professional. Maybe try OSDesk to get a quote www.jomsocial.com/jomsocial-developers From looking around google a lot of people need this plugin

Let me know how you get on i would be interested in hearing the result. If you need me to clarify what i found just ask, i'm happy to help where i can. The jomsocial side of things will work because it follows the joomla user table. all you need is to sync the user data.

FYI here are the links to Jfusion www.jfusion.org/
and a link to an old topic asking for the plugin www.jfusion.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6507

have a great day :)
