I wanted to ask a few questions to make sure that this component was the best thing for what I am trying to accomplish. I was not looking for something so close to a facebook interface but there are several features that seem to function in the way I want.

Brief:
I need a space for individuals to register and create a very simple profile. One of the initial profile questions would be to join a group, of which there are 5. Once in here, I would not need any users to post on their own individual pages, but rather only on the Group Pages. There would be 5 different group pages for users to have conversations. Is it possible to enable/disable features in order to accomplish something like this? Please let me know if I need to clarify further.

This isn't something that is possible out of the box. The main feature that is missing is the ability for a user to select groups to Join at the time of signup. The second point is profiles have the stream so you wouldn't be able to stop users from using their profile stream for everything instead of the group
