I just want to know if JomSocial will meet my needs for a project.
I need to have a regular site with your typical pages which is available to the public to view, but I will also need to have a private members social network, where members can see each other's activity, events etc.
At the moment, from the demo, it appears to me that when you install JomSocial, it converts the entire website to a social networking website, rather then a website with a social network available to members. Or is the demo only showing the JomSocial capabilities without it extending a regular website.
Your question is a good one and here is what you can do, jomsocial installs 1 main menu into joomla then loads its own toolbar (if you have it enabled) what this means is you could have your entire site running as any other joomla site with articles information etc etc then 1 menu that may say community, once the user clicks on it then you would see a site that looks like our demo.
You could also take it one step further and make it so that every jomsocial memu was registered. if you are not logged into the site you don't even know jomsocial is there
