i am evaluating the possibility to update jomsocial before go-live.
I have a very old version of jomsocial (3.0.5.1).
My problem is that my jomsocial have some customization. I can retrieve which file has been edited thanks a tool of file comparison.
But i would like to better understand which is the best way to upgrade.

1) I read that the structure of the db has changed; what it means? what has changed? For example, the table that was containing the old field (ie. Id) are still the same (name)?

2) When will be released the 3.2.0.1 strable version?

3) The new version support some tricks in order to read from a overrides folder the overrides files?

4) Does exist some coupon for me?

5) If i install 3.2.01. version, and after a new version will be released, will i able to upgrade with a patch or from i now, for next release i need to upgrade by joomla extension everytime? Or only untill i got a old version of jomsocial?

Hi Claudio,

There is really no quick easy way to upgrade if you have made changes then are not sure what changes you have made.

I would recommend you take a backup for your old site then install it on a test server. This then confirms you can roll back if the upgrade goes wrong for you.

The next thing is to then upgrade jomsocial using the ijoomla installer, This is in the download package and will do tiered upgrades to the latest version.

After that you would need to find the things on your backup of the site that are different then copy your changes across. You can also use diff checker to see what the differences are in the files. Without a record of what you changed i am not sure of a faster way to do it

New fields and structure has been added to the tables all old tables will still function and should not be affected by an upgrade

yes you can now override the default covers and avatars

All existing customers get a discounted rate on renewal automatically, no further discounts apply

All current versions are always included in the downloadable files from your My account link. you can use these files to install / patch your site or you can use the Ijoomla installer, whichever you prefer

Hi, i mean, does exist some help for who have customized files? for example jreviews allow to create a overrides files where put all overrides files. The framework will read from this folder the customized files.

can you please also say me which folder will be changed after re-installation of jomsocial?
Ok, i know that file inside component/com_community will change for sure.
But, which other folder are involved in the updating process?
For example, for sure you know that i installed many community extension (module and plugin).
If i install again jomsocial, what about following folder:

plugins/community? - - > All of the contents inside this folder will be deleted and only new file will be inside after update?
same for modules..

yes all modules and plugins are replaced by the upgrade

sorry, can u explain better? Only community (from jomsocial) plugin will be replaced? the third party plugin inside community folder will not change?

Jomsocial will only overwrite our own plugins and modules and the main component files, these are in the folders as shown below

siteroot/plugins/community
siteroot/modules/mod_community_x
siteroot/components/com_community
