We tried the standard version during some months last year until the subscription expired. Now we want to purchase it again, and keep renewing the subscription, in order to use the component in our school website.
However, we need to know if it is possible to moderate registration requests, we want to have control over who registers as we are using the component for an ex-alumni community.

Jomsocial has muti profiles that can be set to require admin approval, so yes this can be done. When a user registers they have to wait untill the site administrator approves the registration

Joomla itself also has the feature to set all registrations to admin approval then can be changed in the user options in admin
