I have used JomSocial in the past and it's a great social networking solution.

I am hoping to use it again, but only want to make use of the video and picture galleries, and maybe the groups. I don't wish to use the wall for status updates, or the events... Is there anyway to disable these features?

These features would need to be removed or hidden by customizing the code. The wall/stream is a core part of Jomsocial. I would suggest that you may need to contact a Jomsocial developer www.jomsocial.com/jomsocial-developers
