Can different templates be used?
If so, can you suggest one that would be very suited for Sport?

#1 yes we have, but for chat you should install 3rd party extension from here bloo.ie/jomchat
#2 Yes it can, you can create your own tempalte or user override template from Joomla itself.. You can search the templates from here www.jomsocial.com/addons/templates
#3 I think this is good for sportshttps://www.jomsocial.com/addons/templates/it-community-2 but that is depend, you can search by yourself anyway.
