ISSUE SUMMARY:
When trying to modify/change cover or upload avatar the following message is given:
"Uploaded File Type Not Supported"

Note: Upload of photos in activity stream works just fine.

STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1Login
2Click on Profile in menu
3Click on wheel right-hand corner of cover or avatar
4Select Modify
5Upload file

RESULT
Error Message: Uploaded File Type Not Supported

EXPECTED RESULT
See Cover and Avatar pictures uploaded properly

BROWSER
Tried in Chrome, IE, FireFox and Safari. Same error comes up

Had several of my members from various locations using different browsers to go in and try to upload new avatar and cover, but all reported the same error.

What We Did to Try and Solve:
Checked Joomla Media Configuration. Results: All image files listed properly
Check Configuration in JomSocial: Results: No configuration problems noted

Hi, upgraded to Jomsocial 4.2 and the problem is still there. Still receiving error when trying to modify/upload photos for cover and avatar.

Your issue was caused by menu misconfiguration. In your main menu you have menu item "Community" that was an external link leading to;
www.womenaboutbiz.com/social-community

I've changed it to JomSocial home menu item and avatar could be uploaded now:

External link menu item should be use ONLY for external links. I noticed that you use it very often just to create your site internal links. You should use rather direct linking or menu aliases. In case on JomSocial you should have ONE JomSocial home menu item (direct linked) and menu aliases that links to JomSocial Toolbar menu items when you need to display JS links in other parts of your site.
