The older JomSocial used to keep or display the original file name of the photo. This made searching for a particular photo easier with some third party plugins. My site relies on that heavily as I take photos of friends and familys racing cars and the they can search for the race car number that I put into the file name before uploading, that is no longer possible because JS renames the files to a long string of random characters. Is there anything I can do to bring that back or can anybody recommend a plugin that caters to that?

I am sorry this is not possible, we use this behavior to avoid the naming conflict. You cant revert back to the old code.
