ISSUE SUMMARY: If video is watched inside the activity stream the watched total is not updated to reflect this. Checked on demo.jomsocial.com with same results.
STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1. Add video
2. Watch in activity stream
3. Go to video section and total not updated
RESULT: Watched total doesn't update
EXPECTED RESULT: Watched total updated to reflect video being watched in activity stream.
BROWSER: IE, Firefox, Chrome
Hi, Jason.
Counter will not move when you watch video in activity stream. Only if you watch video (at least play it - don't need to play it to the end) in modal window. could you tray that?
Yes the counter does move when you watch it in the modal window. The bug is when the video is watch in the activity stream the counter doesn't move. Logically it shouldn't matter where on the site the video is watched, if play is pressed the counter should move!
Hi.
I reported it as a bug. Now we need to wait when developers will fix it.
I'll update you with a fix.
Hi.
Error report was rejected with following comment:
We can not hook on the "play" button.
The video page must be opened for "view" to count
Hi Michal, I really feel like this is a serious bug, if a video gets watched 100 time on the activity stream then a user goes to the video section and see the view total on 0 it really doesn't give a good impression of real traffic on the site. I really find it hard to believe the developers can't fix this bug, did they even try? Please fix this serious bug!!!
HI, Jason.
This is not a bug - it's just the way counter works, counter will notice views ONLY when viewing video page or modal window.
I'm sorry but we can't do much about it.
Report was rejected.
Hi, Jason.
I already escalated this issue creating a bug report.
It was rejected by developers.
Also I already explained why it can't be implemented and how it exactly works.
Forgive me if I seem persistent, but...
The whole video counter workflow is flawed....
1. Watch video on activity stream by pressing play - Counter does not update...
2. Open video in modal windows without pressing play - Counter updates...
3. Open video in video page without pressing play - Counter updates...
So you logic is if you play a video in the activity stream it's not counted as being watched, but just open the modal window or video page without actually pressing play, it's been counted as being watched. It really boggles my mind. Please ask Merav if she feels this workflow is correct.
I really hope this gets resolved in 4.1...
Hi, Jaseon.
This is correct behaviour as videos are EMBED from provider (original site). They are not part of stream or any JS pages. That's why we can't count clicking "play" button as in a fact it's NOT on site... but on source site which is YT. That's why we could only count direct view of video page in JS.
Only YT could count play click directly in player... but that's a different story.
Hi, Jason.
There is such an option:
prntscr.com/81fesj
When you click on video title - modal window will be displayed.
But this seems not work when clicking directly on video play button... I need to ask developers if this is intended.
Hi, Jason.
I have developer response:
Yes, it is intended. Clicking on thumbnail (the one with play button) will always play video directly in the stream view. Whereas clicking link depends the backend config value, which could be modal or same window.
