ISSUE SUMMARY:
This is a followup thread to the original thread here:
www.jomsocial.com/forum/photos-videos/26...-perpetually-pending
I am using a dual processor AMD windows7x64Ultimate pc with 4GB RAM, 500GB scsi hdd with 'extreme' internet speeds.
I have created an account with no-ip.com and have mapped my localhost to my dynamic dns service which is accessible to the public (i have tested from 2 different pc's on the local network/workgroup)
I have successfully installed Xampp 5.6.8 and all required applications (apache, php, mysql, filezilla, mercury, tomcat) to run Joomla 3.4.1 and JomSocial 3.2.1.6, as well as ffmpeg v.2.2.2 from c://xampp/ffmpeg, registered ffmpeg in system environment variables, created a registry key for ffmpeg under local machine/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/app paths, as well as making sure the dll's are copied to c:\windows\system32, c:\windows\SysWOW64, c:\xampp\php\ext, c:\xampp\ffmpeg, as well as other places *just in case*...
I set the absolute path to ffmpeg (c:\xampp\ffmpeg) in the video settings of JomSocial, turned on cronjobs in configuration>site, activated php_ffmpeg.dll in php.ini, uploaded a video through JomSocial frontend and tried to manually execute http://localhost/index.php?option=com_community&task=cron in my google chrome browser.
I received the same type of error as the original thread mentioned above.
<message>Could not convert video</message>

What is the proper way to execute "cron" jobs in JomSocial on a localhost running xampp?
Please give me step-by-step instructions, including where to put certain files, where to find certain files and the exact scripts i need to create or execute.
If I am not able to get JomSocial video uploads/processing to work on my local machine with ffmpeg 2.2.2 (or newer version) I will be giving up on JomSocial and using a different community program.
Hi, Gina.
I remember your issue with video conversion. We advised you to try another hosting service.
You decide to set a localhost... so you moved your installation out of our reach.
We don't support localhost installations. Please, read our Support Policy:
www.jomsocial.com/support
I strongly advise you to use commercial WEB hosting. Do a research - some of hosting companies offer trials so you may check if server will fit your needs.
You have got to be f*kking kidding me !!!!!!!!!
Simply because I choose to save $$$$ by hosting my own server, you refuse to help me?????????
Are you serious ???
So, tell me JomSocial LORDS, what webhost maintains SHARED SERVERS WITH FFMPEG 2.2.X OR HIGHER ????
JomSocial is dangerously close to getting blasted in the public for their HORRIFIC customer support ....
Hey Michael,
It would have been RESPECTFUL to your CUSTOMER if you had told me BEFORE about JomSocial's REFUSAL TO SUPPORT LOCALHOST installations ...
If you had FOREWARNED me about your stingy support, I would have spent my time this past month much more wisely than trying to use your software ...
This has been a very expensive lesson learned ...... now I remember why I never pay for software ... because it's NEVER worth the expense and we never get what we pay for. The end-user always gets screwed in the end.
I just filed a complaint (ref. # 62462385) with the Federal Trade Commission about your fraud.
Hi Gina,
I have been made aware of your post. Firstly, we are happy to help you but you must calm down take a breath, your aggression is not helping anyone.
Let me try to explain some things regarding 1. FFMPEG and 2. Support on localhost.
FFMPEG is one of the best video processing methods currently available and has been for many years. It consumes many server resources and considered something that should only be run on a quality server. I have Just over 20 years of server background and i can say that still to this day i can encounter issues compiling FFMPEG on some of the best specified servers out there. It is not something that is part of Jomsocial. We use it because it is one of the few methods available for server video processing.
Lets cover FFMPEG now on a server or localhost.
On a server running Centos, FFMPEG can be an extremely difficult thing to install and compile. there are 2 steps involved 1. installing the required codec and 2. compiling them correctly. A sever running ubuntu is extremely tolerant of FFMPEG, it will run first go most of the time. I have jomsocial working on FFMPEG as low as V1.2 while i wouldn’t recommend it, fact is, it will work.
Paid hosting: Because FFMPEG is resource intensive most shared hosting don’t want you to use it, therefore they have a very only version like 0.8 running this will not work with Jomsocial is it to old. Because FFMPEG is server level not user level install, they will not upgrade it for one, as it affects everyone else.
VPS or dedicated host, This is the best option as you can install what ever you wish on the server and if you have managed servers then you can get the provider to install it for you. This is a more expensive option
Localhost. FFMPEG will run perfectly on windows 7 by simply downloading it from ffmpeg.org unpacking it into a folder of your choice then put that path into Jomsocial. Something that is a common mistake is on a server you would use /usr/bin/usr/ffmpeg but on a windows PC you must specify the full path and file extension path
c:\xmapp\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe
