hero photo only appears when only one photo is uploaded

Hero image appears on the activity stream only when (1) one photo is uploaded to the gallery album. If a user uploads more than (1) one photo the hero does not appear on the activity stream only the thumb nails. This used to work on the older version. Since I have upgraded it is not working. Can someone please help me with this?

hero image only appear if users uploading 1 photo and more than 4 photos (5 or more).
