We recompiled ffmpeg again this morning. This is the result. Still videos do NOT leave pending videos. The issue can't be with ffmpeg if it compiles with this result. Everything in every document has been done. No typos. Nothing left out step by step.

root@ip-166-62-45-46 [/home/provideo]# ffmpeg -version
ffmpeg version 2.2.1
built on Apr 13 2014 13:00:18 with gcc 4.4.6 (GCC) 20120305 (Red Hat 4.4.6-4)
configuration: --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 --shlibdir=/usr/lib64 --mandir= /usr/share/man --enable-shared --enable-runtime-cpudetect --enable-gpl --enable- version3 --enable-postproc --enable-avfilter --enable-pthreads --enable-x11grab --enable-vdpau --disable-avisynth --enable-frei0r --enable-libopencv --enable-li bdc1394 --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libnut --enable-libopencore -amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-librtmp --enable -libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --extra-cflags='-O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FOR TIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m64 -mtu ne=generic -fPIC' --disable-stripping
libavutil 52. 66.100 / 52. 66.100
libavcodec 55. 52.102 / 55. 52.102
libavformat 55. 33.100 / 55. 33.100
libavdevice 55. 10.100 / 55. 10.100
libavfilter 4. 2.100 / 4. 2.100
libswscale 2. 5.102 / 2. 5.102
libswresample 0. 18.100 / 0. 18.100
libpostproc 52. 3.100 / 52. 3.100

We tried to use zencoder. It does not work also. I'm 100% positive the issue is not with zencoder.

If ffmpeg is configured and showing the result I listed above, and it still does not work, the issue can not be with ffmpeg any longer.

If zencoder is enabled. the result is the same. The issue can not be with zencoder either.

The issue points back to jomsocial exclusively. We know that zencoder is properly configured. Video encoding is what they do.

So, we arrive back at the same point we left before we even started this. Jomsocial is not working and must be addressed as the issue, NOT ffmpeg or Zencoder.

Please take action. We have done everything in every document. 5 developers and sysadmins have reviewed every detail and all 5 concur. The issue is not ffmpeg or zencoder. If the issue was only ffmpeg, then using zencoder would instantly work properly...but in fact, zencoder does not work either. This indicates that there is an issue with jomsocial, not with an external application.

I have updated the URL for admin in the development site. Right in the middle of all of this the site owner decided to redirect to his other site. so I have put the IP address for the correct site in the URL for you.

Hi Geof,

A developer and myself have looked at this most of the day, here is what we found

FFMPEG
There are 2 copies installed on your server. One copy that is accessible but not compiled here is the result from doing # ffmpeg -version

ffmpeg version git-2014-12-30-eee9b7a Copyright (c) 2000-2014 the FFmpeg developers
built on Dec 30 2014 12:41:42 with gcc 4.4.7 (GCC) 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-11)
configuration:
libavutil 54. 15.100 / 54. 15.100
libavcodec 56. 19.100 / 56. 19.100
libavformat 56. 16.102 / 56. 16.102
libavdevice 56. 3.100 / 56. 3.100
libavfilter 5. 6.100 / 5. 6.100
libswscale 3. 1.101 / 3. 1.101
libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100

This version is not compiled
Now if we look at the path # whereis ffmpeg
ffmpeg: /usr/bin/ffmpeg /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg /usr/share/ffmpeg /usr/share/man/man1/ffmpeg.1.gz

Now for the second version we type #sudo su we now move into the home directory of the user
we type #ffmpeg -version we get this (a second copy)
built on Apr 13 2014 13:00:18 with gcc 4.4.6 (GCC) 20120305 (Red Hat 4.4.6-4)
configuration: --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib64 --shlibdir=/usr/lib64 --mandir=/usr/share/man --enable-shared --enable-runtime-cpudetect --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --enable-postproc --enable-avfilter --enable-pthreads --enable-x11grab --enable-vdpau --disable-avisynth --enable-frei0r --enable-libopencv --enable-libdc1394 --enable-libgsm --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libnut --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-librtmp --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libx264 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --extra-cflags='-O2 -g -pipe -Wall -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 -fexceptions -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -m64 -mtune=generic -fPIC' --disable-stripping
libavutil 52. 66.100 / 52. 66.100
libavcodec 55. 52.102 / 55. 52.102
libavformat 55. 33.100 / 55. 33.100
libavdevice 55. 10.100 / 55. 10.100
libavfilter 4. 2.100 / 4. 2.100
libswscale 2. 5.102 / 2. 5.102
libswresample 0. 18.100 / 0. 18.100
libpostproc 52. 3.100 / 52. 3.100

If we now look for the path to ffmpeg as this user we type # whereis ffmpeg this is the result we get (the same path to the un-compiled FFMPEG as above
ffmpeg: /usr/bin/ffmpeg /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg /usr/share/ffmpeg /usr/share/man/man1/ffmpeg.1.gz

The ffmpeg that is compiled is not the version that is available for use, the compiled version is only available to the sudo su user

FFMEG is not installed to a suitable standard on the server and this is the reason FFMPEG is not working

Zencoder
The video tutorial shows the setup and if followed you will have all the correct settings, what the video fails to mention is that you must have the S3 bucket set up in configuration > remote storage videos must be set to remote storage and not local.

We setup a bucket and the policy in my S3 account and tested it on 2 seperate Centos 6 X servers, The first server has a domain name and the second is only using an ip address. We wanted to make sure we were testing apples against apples. In all situations the zencoder worked as designed on both servers and the transfer and encoding works fault free.

We then copied the exact settings to your site checked all settings were correct and uploaded a video. The video uploaded and sat in the pending que, we then ran the cron and the video appeared in the stream with the thumbnail missing and no video playing. When we checked the S3 bucket it was empty.

We compared the 2 other sites and tested again and both worked as expected

The only thing we can conclude is that there is a fundamental issue on your server, how it is configured or something is not set correctly to allow the transfer out, We have have hundreds of customers using both options on centos servers and I personally have many sites running the same.

After another day of working on this fault the only thing i can suggest is that you speak with your server supplier or your server administrator and work though these issues by doing a task and examining the logs to work out what is going on. We have investigated this as far as we can and we have established that both FFMPEG and Zencoder function exactly as designed on a centos 6.5 . With this in mind the only other failure point is the server or network
