Hello,
I have a VPS-02 account with Imageleet. We moved from shared hosting to VPS hoping to see this problem resolved by the increased resources... our site is slowing to a hault- basically Imageleet is telling us that the cpu is maxed out by the ffmpeg processes in the queue. I have the max file size set to 400mb in JomSocial, and php.ini says 500mb. Imageleet sent me this reply, but I'm confused as to how we can have file sizes like that if the maximums are set well below that? Please help! We need video upload on our site.
Thanks,
Hello Scott,
Problem is not the number of users but video encoding process and if 3-4 video encoding process keep going on it will impact performance of the site as ffmpeg will take most of the CPU. You can check your VPS CPU load is always staying above 10. Video being encoded are very large in size and currently one video being processed is more than 1 GB after encoding still going on. You can check folder images/video/videos/298/ where this encoded video is being put. Original video is also 618 MB in size.
Video encoding take lot of CPU and its normal for ffmpeg to consume amount of CPU, Its same as you encode video on your local system using any encoding app and process take lot of time. 100-150 MB video can take upto an hour or more on already overloaded system.
Currently VPS is running 5 ffmpeg process encoding 5 videos at same time using all the CPU which leave very little for actual site loading.

Please provide me joomla login so that i can review encoding commands further, jomsocial default command seem to be creating very large video files and re-encoding mp4 files which can be played without encoding. Perhaps it can save some CPU.
