Welcome the Technical Support section. Help us in assisting you by providing us with a concise and descriptive elaboration of your issues. Be specific and if possible, provide us with a step-by-step instruction in replicating your problem.
I have been with Jomsocial ever since it first came out and used it since then many upgrade, migrations, etc.
I just migrated a site from 2.5 - 3.3.6 - of course some things went wrong but I am more so having an issue understanding how Jomsocial deals with the local to S3 transfer functionality. There were a few things that happened.
I used S3 for a long time but the original configuration for S3 was different in a few releases back I believe you just had to designate the bucket and the url was preconfigured but Amazon changed it. Either way I was thinking my images were on S3 when indeed they stayed on my server. Once I found that out I updated the configuration and transferred everything.
However not all of the images made it and some image paths seem to be incorrect instead of pulling from S3 it is looking for it on the server but since I have the "Delete Originals" there are no images.
So my question are several but I think I have to undergo a lot of troubleshooting but I don't understand how Jomsocial handles the entire process.
What happens when I switch from local storage to S3?
What happens if all images do not transfer do they get stuck or do you have to manually push them?
What components do I need to address in order to sync my images? Do I have to update the records in the Mysql DB in the community_photos and community_s3_storage table?
Is there a process where I can reset or restart the process where the Jomsocial picks up any missed photos/videos, etc?
If you have documentation or anything that I can use to fix my problem. There a few items that would probably way out of scope for this board to answer but I would just need to know the work flow or some understanding of the S3 process.
- What happens when I switch from local storage to S3?
* Jomsocial will transfer all related files to S3. But if you switch back to local storage, all related files will "missing".
- What happens if all images do not transfer do they get stuck or do you have to manually push them?
* Jomsocial will try to re-transfer again at next cron job process
- What components do I need to address in order to sync my images? Do I have to update the records in the Mysql DB in the community_photos and community_s3_storage table?
* sorry, this question is not clear for me. what do you mean with "sync my images" (maybe answers for question 1,2, and 3 has been covered this question answer)
- Is there a process where I can reset or restart the process where the Jomsocial picks up any missed photos/videos, etc?
* Jomsocial will try to re-transfer again at next cron job process if some files failed or missed
I migrated my Joomla 2.5 to 3.3 but used SP Transfer, some images are now missing and I have to cron jobs set but those avators are not appearing which means something is not working. I need to reverse engineer and try and find where they are missing.
My assumption is that there is an original photos folder and when you set to "delete original photos" that JS can't rebuild is that correct?
So under the circumstance that these images are lost but are on my S3 server, how could I match them back? or as you stated when you set to S3 the scripts will re-transfer but if you set back to local it will be missing. How can you resync the images?
What components determine where to map those images?
What is the process of images, avatars when S3 is enabled? Will the initial upload be stored in original photos and from there the images will be processed along with their paths? How does JS validate the paths for S3?
Sorry for all of these questions I am trying to wrap my head around the process since there are so many different files reverse engineering takes a long time, thought would be easier asking you guys. I also use the GK Jomsocial Feed module where I am having issues with these paths as the module keeps pulling in local but my images are on S3. So knowing this will help me troublshooting my own problems. thanks
if you migrated joomla 2.5 to 3.3 and all jomsocial tables included at migration process. you no need to re-transfer or to re-build S3. becuase the images already at there. and that information has been stored at jomsocial users table.
may I get your administrator detail, and cpanel accecc detail? need that to make sure about this.
I think jomsocial users table not migrated.
