Hi,

My host, like most I suppose, doesn't allow me to use the direct upload feature (FFMPEG).
Are there actually any hosts that do allow this and make Jomsocial an option? Or is my only option to go for a full-blown VPS? Seems a bit overkill to me but I can't seem to find any decent hosting options that let you use the video upload feature.

Hi Ascencao,

As far as i know, mostly shared hosting doesn't support for FFMPEG feature because this feature need a massive resource for server specification (if some people who use shared server do a video upload and conversion)..

I found this one from google : Pacific Host maybe you can try to ask them about FFMPEG support for shared hosting BUT WE DON'T GUARANTEE ABOUT THEIR SERVICE..
