When we delete for exemple the cover picture for a group (not tested for profile or event cover picture) in the album (called group's Cover) then we have a blank picture with a text cover photo

It could be great that in your code as you it comes from the group cover photo to reload jomsocial default picture.

If group cover pic already setup and your delete the pic from album cover. it will broken because at group configuration DB still have deleted pic as cover. This is user mistake. But we will accept this as input for us. We will considering to add extra code for prevent user mistake.

Well i don't consider it's a user mistake but it's great you add that feature.
Moreover don't forget to delete also activity stream because I've seen too that once the picture is deleted, in activity stream where it was written User has added or modified cover picture, then the picture box is empty
