Hi,

I have a number of Youtube videos linked to the site. Just before Christmas they stopped working. Up until that time they worked fine. The code behind the link for each video looks correct. I have also tested these in IE, Chrome and Firefox and they do not work in any when logged into the site. If I copy the link into a browser outside the site, I can view the videos without any problems. However, inside the site the videos will not play.

I have checked with the hosting service and they advise they have not changed anything. I would very much appreciate your assistance with this.

Cheers

Hi Denise.

To be honest I'm not able to access your back-end with details from the site info box, could you make sure that they're correct?

Hi Dimas,

Thank you for being so prompt. I very much appreciate it.

I can't get any of the videos to play whether accessing them from the videos tab, or the videos module on the activities page or indeed your recent video in the activity stream. Yet I can paste the video link when inspecting the element in the site and paste it into a browser address box and it plays without any problems at all.

It is very puzzling as to why it will not play in the site, but I can play all sorts of videos outside of the site. I honestly thought it was an issue between Youtube and Jomsocial. Any other clues?

Cheers

HI Dimas....am not about to upgrade. The videos worked just fine over the other versions of Jomsocial over the years including this latest version right up until just before Christmas.

What I have found is an error message advising that the page was blocked as it was loaded over https but ran inseceure content from youtube. See attached file for screen shot.

Cheers,
Denise

Sorry I cant see your screenshoot.. its too small.

So you cant play the https URL from youtube? maybe your website need run on https too, but not sure.. this issue related with privacy options from youtube itself i think. Can you also contact to the youtube support please?

Hi Dimas,

The information in the screen shot was that which I wrote in the reply. However, I have been able to move on a little since yesterday and have worked part of this out.

Chrome no longer allows mixed content. In other words my site is HTTPS and Youtube is HTTP. There are no pop ups to tell a person this, a person has to "know" that there is a small grey shield that has suddenly appeared in the address bar. The shield has to be clicked to enable “run unsafe script” to allow the video to play. There are no settings in Chrome to allow mixed content.

IE 11 is playing videos but does not show any of the images on the site. Chrome (I am using Chrome Version 32.0.1700.107) shows images but can only get videos to play as above.

Am yet to get Firefox to play videos. It shows the images.

What a mess. Google is such a pain.

For Jomsocial it means that two of the commonly used browsers (eg commonly used by the average user) displays videos and images inconsistent to each other. EG IE 11 plays videos and allows pop up to let them play but does not show images. Chrome does not play videos but shows images.

Considering JS provides links to videos in sites such as Youtube this presents some real problems for JS sites, even though it is not a fault of Jomsocial.

Cheers,
Denise

Actually google is modern browser and more secure, I aware is the chrome setting maybe bit difficult for you :)

regarding install patch, just extract it, and copy folder inside /ROOT/ to your Joomla Root

Thanks Dimas.....I have searched around and have read that when linking to a Youtube video in JS, if you change URL from HTTP to HTTPS this will make the videos play. eg www.youtube.com/watch?v=VI94AsuvUUA change to https://www.youtube etc.

I have tried this when adding a Youtube video in JS however when I inspect the element after linking the video, the S is dropped off and of course the video does not play. I am wondering why JS drops the S.
