I cannot get ffmpeg installed on my server due to shared hosting. the site is not yet big enough to go to VPS or dedicated hosting.

Is there another way around this video conversion? like say only allow mpeg4, and MOV files to play. so it takes care of most mobile videos that would be upladed?

thanks in advance for any responses that can help me out.

Unfortunately, not
Video must go through conversion process in order to be properly stored and real metadata injected in it.
While you be able to play the mp4 video if you know exact link to it, you can not just upload the video and expect the script to play it.

- Don't say feature not working. Instead, explain what you tried and what was the outcome.
- When you think you found the bug, try to replicate it on a fresh Joomla.
- When looking for support always provide temporary Super Administrative access to your site. We will ask for it anyway.
- Help yourself and read documentation which can give you answers to almost all questions you may have
