We use two registration systems. Akeeba sub for paid business member registrations and reg JS registration for free non-business members.

When a free member registers through JS, is it possible to redirect them to an information page, but keep the login redirect to the community page intact?

Or replace the "Your account has been created" message with html?

Yea this is possible, you can modify and override this file /components/com_community/templates/jomsocial/layouts/register/success.php or you change the translation file language/en-GB/en-GB.com_community.ini
