In the 3.x version of jomsocial we were able to modify the icons used in the notifications module. Can you tell me how this is done now in version 4.x?

we are using fonticon for those icons, you should modify the font, the fonticon located in this folder /components/com_community/assets/font

I have 2 questions:

If we edit the font file can it be placed in an override location so that it does not get replaced during a jomsocial update?

Can you make available the source font file? Otherwise we have to individually edit the ttf, svg, eot, and woff files.

Modify the core icon is really tricky, I suggets you modify the module file directly /modules/mod_community_notifications/tmpl/default.php, you can see the <svg code there, I suggest you change HTML code to the icon directly like on prev version to be like this <i class="your-icon" , and then you define class your icon on your css file
