Hi,
I'm having an odd problem on my site, with IE only. It seems to be related to logging in and caching, though I cannot put my finger on it. I'm not sure if it is Jomsocial related either, but I suspect that it is caused by some issue between (the caching of) the Joomla core login and the Jomsocial login (Hello Me module) - and it's IE specific as well.
The site is an extranet and almost all pages are accesible to registered users only. Because of this nature and the position of the organization in our country, all references to actual url's are in the private section. I hope you can help me to keep it private.
The first part applies to all browsers:
If you are not logged in and you follow the link to the test url (or any other url that requires login) then you will be redirected to the Joomla core login /component /component/users/?view=login
After loggin in, you will be redirected to the home page. This does surprise me a bit because I checked on other sites and ususally you is taken to the url as entered after logging in (if it exists).
When on the Home page you can reenter the url in the url bar or follow the menu to the page documenten > communicatie
This will work in all browsers except IE11 which will redirect to the page /component /component/users/?view=login again. It seems like the url as submitted before login is cached in IE in a kind of non-logged-in state. It is possible to visit any other page.
The reason why I think it has something to do with the JomSocial Hello Me module is the fact that it is on every page. We also offer it on the Home page as our login module. But the link /component /component/users/?view=login is the Joomla core. Maybe there is some conflict between the two?
I hope you will be able to help with this issue. All input is more than welcome, even if it would turn out not to be JomSocial related.
Kind regards, Frits
Hi, Frits.
Ok, first thing first , before I could proceed you'll need to change your supported domain to correct one.
Yes, you can't change it by yourself.
Please, post a supported domain change request here:
www.jomsocial.com/forum/billing-issues
After your change will be done, please, edit your first post here and provide correct site credentials in corresponding fields.
Then update this thread so I'll know it's ready.
Make sure that thread has status "Pending Support".

Hi Michal,
Thanks for your reply. On the test domain I've made an override to replace the default login screen by the Hello Me module, as described on your page.
Now what happens is: when entering a url while not logged in, you'll be prompted with a message of this type: "You need to be logged in". The url at that point is changed to: /component/users/?view=login which is the same as before, but the result is different as a result of the override. To the message I've added a hyperlink leading to Home. Home is accessible to non-registered users and it features the HelloMe module for logging in.
After logging in, you'll stay on the Home page, which is now not surprising anymore as we have followed a link.
But when entering the original url again, or following a link to the original url again, the page for this url is still not rendered correctly. It shows the HelloMe module.
I already had the HelloMe module installed on several pages, so on some pages there may be two instances of it; could this cause any troubles?
I've switched off caching for all HelloMe modules. I thought this would help to prevent this issue. I hope it is not causing trouble instead.
Furthermore, you said:
I'm sorry but I can't see Documenten -> Communicatio on test.<domain>.net
Hi,
I just made sure that on all pages there's only one instance of the HelloMe module. Also I found an instance of the core login module that was still intended to display on each page, showing just the name of the user and a logout button. So I also removed these. However, the issue remains.
Also, it still puzzles me that, if you have an other browser than IE, one is not redirected to the original url after login but rather to the Home page of the site. This is the same, both in the original situation and after overriding the core login module with the HelloMe module. While on other sites, when loggin in using the Joomla core login module, one is redirected to the original url as entered in the url bar (or followed from a link) after loggin in.

Hi, Fritz.
I'm puzzled even more now...
We should have clear situation. So please DESCRIBE STEPS + results + expected results.
Just like this:
STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1. Browse to.
2. Do something.
3... and so on
RESULT:
Something happens.
EXPECTED RESULT:
I expect that something other happens.
Without this we can't go any further.
Ok, so here we go:
A user gets a mail about a newly added page on the site. For now, let's presume it is this page on the test site (in real life it would be on the live site of course):
http://test.<domain>/documenten/communicatie
There's a link to this url in the mail so he clicks it. But he's not logged in.
So, after clicking the link, he's redirected to this url: /component/users/?view=login
Which would originally be the Joomla core login, but on the test site it is overridden by the Hello Me module, as you suggested in an earlier post.
After loggin in, the user is redirected to the Home page.
To me, this is the first unexepected event in this procedure. I would expect to be taken to the /documenten/communicatie url instead, because that is what happens on my other Joomla sites. This unexpected event is happening with all tested browsers, both on Windows (IE, Firefox, Chrome) and Mac (Safari, Firefox, Chrome).
The second unexpected event takes place only when using the Internet Explorer (IE) browser. When the user is logged in and on the home page, he will want to see the page that was mentioned in the mail. So he can click the link in the mail again (/documenten/communicatie), or copy/pastie the url into the url bar or use the menu to go to this page (Documenten > Communicatie). When doing so, the IE user will see a page containing the HelloMe module. A user with any other of the tested browsers will see the page as expected.
I hope this makes it more clear.
On the live site, where both the Joomla core login module and the HelloMe module are present, the first event is the same as on the live site: all users are redirected to Home after login, instead of the requested url. The second event applies to IE users only on the live site, just as on the test site. The only difference is that they are being redirected to the Joomla core login instead of HelloMe.
Frits
Hi, Fritz.
That is correct behavior:
1. User gets email with notification
2. Click on link in email
3. Get redirected to page that is user inbox - this page is restricted to logged in users only. Clicking on link doesn't make user logged in automatically. Imagine that someone opens that email... or forward to own email and later click on link and get logged in automatically and get access to JS inbox... So no, user needs to log in if he/she is not yet.
4. After login user will be redirected to home of your site as this is default setting.
So you may enable in Backen -> Extensions -> Plugins manager -> JomSocial Redirect plugin and set page for successful log-in and out and for failure. Also you could enable "Back to previous page" to redirect to page from which login was performed. But in case of
/component/users/?view=login user will see Hello me module...
I'll test that IE issue... and update thread.
Hi, Fritz.
I'm sorry but your second issue can't be replicated.
I used your test site:
1. Posted as "michal" on stream
2. Then logged out and logged in as yous site admin and:
- clicked like post
- commented post
- sent friend request
- sent private message
3. I logged in as "michal" using Internet Explorer 10
4. Run cronjob as admin in backend to send emails
5. I received emails in Internet Explorer 10 and still being logged in (and on homepage) as "michal" I clicked on links in email.
6. New tab was open with correct content;
- profile with displayed certain activity that was liked and commented
- inbox with PM
- friend request list
Links in email re not SEF so doesn't matter if they content /documenten/communicatie (there is /network on your site anyway).
Hi Michal,
Thanks for your help. I think there's something that I did not point out clearly. This site contains both JomSocial pages and other Joomla menu items of various types, and nearly all of them are restricted to registered users. Also, the email that I was speaking of was not generated by JomSocial, it was "just an email" created using whatever mail client. Also the url that is in the mail, /documenten/communicatie, is just an arbitrary Joomla menu item, not a JS item. Neither was any other JS function involved, like adding to a stream, liking or whatever. All testing is just plain Joomla that has nothing to do with JomSocial EXCEPT FOR logging in.
That is the reason why I came to JS support: the issue is related to the login procedure and the only difference with my other sites is the fact that we are using the HelloMe login instead of Joomla core login. I remember that, when setting up this site, we could not accomplish our needs with the Joomla core login module so we needed the HelloMe.
In your latest update, you referred to the menu item /netwerk which is the main menu item for JomSocial indeed, but the url that I mentioned in my test, /documenten/communicatie is outside this branch of the menu.
As you suggested, I tweaked the settings of the JomSocial Redirect plugin. Setting "Redirect back to previous page" to Yes leads to the HelloMe module indeed. But if I would set it to No and manually set "Redirect login" to a different menu item than Home, it will always point at the same menu item. And I cannot predict which url a user will follow at any time. It would be better if you were redirected to the page that was visited BEFORE the HelloMe module. Would it be possible to change it's behavior according to this? It seems to me that this is what happens when using the Joomla core login.
Then about the IE specific issue, I just tested with my IE11 set to IE10 emulation and indeed the issue cannot be reproduced then. It must be IE11 specific.
Frits
Hi, Frits.
Joomla login module works the same way as Hello me module.
I may say that Hello me module is a modified Joomla! login module that displays additional data when logged in.
That's - to be honest - the only difference.
It can't be modified as you describe. It will be always one page back.
As for IE11, yes it seems so. I don't have IE11 so I can't test it directly... but I'm surprised that in one version it's fine and just anothe (newer!) doesn't... that's another reason to not use IE... it will be abandoned anyway:

I take your word for it ;-)Michal wrote: Joomla login module works the same way as Hello me module.

I dislike IE as much as you do, Michal. But I know that many users out there have it as their main (or: only) browser. So I'll have to deal with it.Michal wrote: As for IE11, yes it seems so. Hi, Fritz.
You see, the main purpose of JomSocial Redirect plugin is to REDIRECT TO CERTAIN page after login in or out. So redirection will always take place when plugin is enabled and those settings can't be disabled or leave in some default state.
But another important feature of plugin it to override any Joomla! default registration attempts. But this could be solved with htaccess rewrite rule.
Also there is redirection feature in JomSocial... or you may use some fancy 3rd party login modules as
