registration problem

Hello, I recently migrated my site to a new server and updated to the latest jomsocial... I have been having registration problems. It was previously set up to have Admin Approval, and was working smoothly. However, something has gone wrong and I don't have the knowledge to troubleshoot it (I've spent quite a while trying).

The problem: when you start to complete the registration process, after agreeing to the terms and clicking Next, it takes you from the JS registration to a url /index.php?option=com_users&view=login (the Joomla login) with the message "Please login first"

I've seen others having a similar problem, but have not found a solution yet.

Thank you kindly
Scott

Hi, Scott.

Please provide us with working administrator credentials.
I can't login to your site.
Please, edit your first post and add credentials to corresponding fields.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

Hi, Scott.

It's menu items issue. Please, follow this instruction and make sure that you repeat it for EVERY JomSocial related menu item:

When you upgrading JomSocial by uninstalling it, menu items in JomSocial toolbar lost "connection" with component. Joomla! mark them as disabled and with notice: "Component 'com_community' does not exist". In order to fix it please follow this instruction:

- click on menu item in JomSocial menu in order to edit it
- when in edit mode don't change anything
- save
- menu item should be fixed
- do it for every JomSocial related menu items (if needed) in all other menus

This is just how Joomla! works. When you have menu item linked to component and then remove that component - menu item will be disabled like this by Joomla!. Even if you install component again it will come to the system with different id so menu items will still disabled. But for luck fix is easy, just follow steps I provided above.

Hi Michal,

I followed the instructions and opened/saved all jomsocial menus. Still the same result (see image below). This happens after filling in the info on the first page and clicking Next. Help!

Hi, Scott.

Ok, that was only first step to exclude any other menu issue. Now I know the root cause of it.
This is menu misconfiguration. You have few JomSocial home items. One (with highest ID) is located in Jomsocial menu with id 720 (LOUNGE). And it's restricted to registered users. So user land on default page, which is "Community" id 487 (and JomSocial frontapge/home), but when clicks on register button Joomla! loads JomSocial frontpage/home ite with highest id 720 that has restricted access to registered users only. So guest is asked to login before register (sic!) :)

Just change menu item ID 720 LOUNGE from "Registered" to "Public" and your issue is solved.

Also you should have ONLY ONE JOmSocial menu item - outside JomSocial menu. If you'd like to link to JomSocial frontpage/home page - uses system links -> menu alias instead of creating another direct link.

Hi Michal,

That seemed to fix the registration. We do have Administrator Approval plugin enabled- that was previously working okay, but I'm not sure why it's not working now... the account just gets created almost as if the plugin doesn't exist. Any thoughts on this?

Thank you so much for your help

Hi, Scott.

" Administrator Approval plugin"? JomSocial doesn't require or use such a plugin. If you want to have admin approval for every new account, make sure that admin account in Users -> Users manager -> admin account has YES for receiving system message. And in Users -> User manager -> Options (button upper right) -> New User Account Activation -> Admin and Notification Mail to Administrators -> YES.
