Translation of MODULE AND PLUGIN TITLES

Why is the login credentials mandatory?
It has been more than ONE year that we have been complaining about poor documentation for translations and also very poor handling of menu bar translation approach. We as paying customers and professionals cannot waste our time due to your poor software programming practices.
We have asked for a solution a long time ago and so far we have nothing.
Every time I install your software I have to translate by hand a whole bunch of menu tool bar strings... this is really getting to be a big problem.
Also there is no documentation anywhere (and if there is - it's wrong) about translating module titles in other languages.

We need a solution as soon as possible.
Thanks

Hi Anastasios,

I have just checked this and i am surprised, Like yourself i thought this had been fixed some time ago. I will have one of our team members go though Jomsocial and all modules / plugins to find the missing strings so we can get them fixed.

In regards to the menu bar translation approach could you please explain this a bit further. The Jomsocial tooolbar is the same approach as how joomla menus are translated so i am not sure what you are referring to with that. Please let me know so i can look into it for you

I will mark this post as a confirmed bug so this can be tracked though our system

Good morning Paul,

I would like to thank you for your immediate reply and also for looking into this situation.

In regards to the main menu and toolbar menu, documentation for translating the strings is available here:
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Translate_Toolbar
but that is exactly my point with this particular issue.
Shouldn't there be an .ini file with constant/value pairs for each language as far as the menus are concerned?

It is odd that I have to enter the values by hand initially in the xx_XX.com_community.ini file and then separately in another operation I have to manually go to each menu item and replace each title with a constant... (please see attached images)

On another note, I believe the content referring to available translation files in Greek - from this webpage -http://www.jomsocial.com/addons/languages/greek
should be removed, because there are no translation files to download,
thereby leading everyone down the wrong path and sending loads of traffic to these websites that offer no value to our community (JomSocial).

Also I believe it should be clearly stated (on the same page) that all translations are taking place on the transifex platform at:
www.transifex.com/projects/p/jomsocial/

By the way, I applied to become a translator (yesterday) so I'm patiently waiting to receive an acceptance reply. A lot of hard work has been put in by the Greek community and the translation is almost finished, so another helping hand to make corrections and add some more strings wouldn't be bad.

Regarding the Module Title translation, on this web page => documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Translating_Module
it states that
"The filename's that are of interest to us will in most cases have this format en-GB.mod_community_modulename.ini"
but yet, I still have not found a file name with that type of format in my installation.

As far as translating the Title of each Module (Event, Calendar, Video etc), I worked around it by translating each title by hand and assigning each module to a separate language.

I just hope that with a new JomSocial update I will not lose all these changes.

That is all for today and thanks for listening.
Have a great day Paul and best regards

Anastasios

I will be talking with our developers regarding this as i would like to check why it is not in the language file and if you choose not to use it then that's ok but if you do choose to use it it is in the file and translated on Transifex. I will get back to you on this point as there may be a valid reason for this

I am in the process of completely removing all language translations from the add on directory and this will happen in the next few days. We are notifying those translators first to tell them before removing it. We 100% agree on this issue, it is just confusing and everyone needs to go to transifex to get the most current translations

By the way, I applied to become a translator (yesterday) so I'm patiently waiting to receive an acceptance reply. A lot of hard work has been put in by the Greek community and the translation is almost finished, so another helping hand to make corrections and add some more strings wouldn't be bad.

I have approved you as a translator and if you are actively translating, in return we are happy to supply you with a Jomsocial license. Transifex is another area we are actively starting to clean up as some languages have 20 translators and it is only at 60% If this is of interest to you please contact me paul AT ijoomla DOT com and we can discuss this further

I have had our support team go through the entire product last night, modules / plugins / apps looking for all the missing translation strings and we have found quite a few. This will now go into our bug reporting system and will be fixed in the usual method.

Your timing of this post has been interesting because we have been working on a lot of things behind the scenes that will come into action during this week and next. We want to totally get control back into translations and how it is managed, Your feedback and posts like this show me that the work we are doing in this area is important so thanks for taking the time to report it.

I look forward to hearing from you by email if you would like translate the Greek language on an ongoing basis and will reply when i have more information regarding the menus discussed in this post

Have a great day
