Hello! We're building a JomSocial site and we need a way for member notifications to appear in real time, similar to Facebook. If I'm logged in as a user and someone sends me a message or friend request, i need a notification or popup to happen without me having to refresh my page.

Does JomSocial offer this feature built in? If not, is there a third-party plugin or module available that can do this?

I am sorry currently we dont have it, also not sure the 3rd party already build this since I never heard it yet.. you can try search it in our addons page.

Well, actually this is great idea, I will try to raise this feature to our developer.
