I want to only display in modules promoted events, groups, videos and photos. How to do it?

Are you refering to "featured" content?
If so, you can not, but this third party module allows you to do it nicely

As for the modules that normally display on the right side of the page content.

Earlier version of Jomsocial gave the opportunity the display promoted events, groups and photos in the sidebar component.

Can you please explain what exactly are "promoted events", "promoted groups" and "promoted photos"
There is no such thing in jomsocial as "promoted content"

Modules in the sidebar are still there, but they display all the available content.

Just go to Joomla module manager and enable them.
