I have joomla 3.6.2 and jomsocial professional 4.2.4 and I want want jomsocial latest version 4.5.
Now, I have updated joomla 3.6.2 => 3.6.5 => 3.8.2 as I know that jomsocial 4.5 is compatible with joomla 3.8.

Now, what are the best steps I can follow to update jomsocial to 4.5?

0. Make a safe copy of your whole system (files and database)
1. Browse to Backend -> Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Manage
2. Search all extensions using filter "com"
3. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
4. Search all extensions using filter "jom"
5. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
6. Search all extensions using filter "js"
7. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions​
8. 6. Search all extensions using filter "azrul"
9. Uninstall it.
10. Download latest JomSocial package from here: www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses
11. Unzip it
12. Install com_community package via Joomla! installer
13. Follow installation steps

Followed your instructions and updated jomsocial.

Now messages section is redirecting me to a chat section, which is new feature. But strange is chat page is not showing me my old conversations done before updating jomsocial version. It shows me only new conversation done after updating jomsocial version.

You need to run cron job in order to convert your old messages.
Browse to Backend -> Components -> JomSocial -> Monitor -> Mail queue -> Execute cron (button upper right).

Running cron does the work, but there is more serious issue now.

URGENT - As site is live now
Getting complains from the members for strange issue with chat. If they do new message from chat, new messages goes appended by very first conversation with same person, regardless of years ago. But, other messages/conversations done with same persons having no effects.

like, personA did messages to personB 11 times in this year in old system. JAN, FEB, MAR, APR, MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG, SEP, OCT, NOV. Now, if personA press, New Messages button and selects 'personB ' and sends message, this message gets JAN conversation on top and appended in this new conversation. But, all other conversation stays as it is.

Old messages are not displayed?

What you describe is a normal thing. Chat with a person is a sum of all messages. If conversation with User A will be started - it won't cerate new chat but will continue previous on. That's how chat works. The same way works any chat like Hangouts or Facebook. Old messages will be above the new one
