Http Error 500 when accessing /administrator/index.php?option=com_community

ISSUE SUMMARY: when I try to access jomsocial from the backend I get http Error 500 but the frontend shows up fine.


STEPS TO REPLICATE:
1 login to joomla administrator
2 go to component and select jomsocial
3 i get http Error 500
4 on the frontend jomsocial displays with no errors.
