I have been unable to find any documentation on what the blue OVERRIDE button does.

Would you mind explaining its purpose?

Hi,

Override button at iJoomla installer mean: re-install.
at re-install process you no need to worry about losing any data. the data still safe, only all jomsocial core files will be replaced

So maybe you mean "Overwrite", not "Override"?

Maybe "Reinstall" would be clearer?
