1. That your hosting provide FFMPEG library
2. That FFMPEG is installed in latest version on your server
3. That you provided correct FFMPEG path in Backend -> Components -> JomSocial -> Video -> Video Configuration
Consider to contact with your hosting provider as he should know answer for first two questions ;)
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.
- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

Your issue with images in module are caused by your template.
But it's easy to fix.
Just use this code;

Add this code to: ROOT/templates/gk_news2/css/template.css
No, YouTube videos don't need to be converted. Only uploaded videos. Uploaded videos need to be converted so browser could support their playback. Fir example if you upload avi - it can't be played by browser.
I just added a text YouTube video and it appeared on stream without any issue ;)
