No, you don't have to set any template. JomSocial is a Joomla! extension what means it will be displayed in content area of your current template. I see that Js is working properly:

So you're ready to go :)
What you may need to do more... tune up JomSocial to your Community needs. You may add or remove modules to display various information, set privacy, create groups and events, if you want to allow video upload - you need to configure it in JS backend, you may also customize profile fields. There a lot of things you may do... or just leave JomSocial with default settings.
If you still not sure what to do next - just tell me what you want to do... I'll put you into right tracks ;)
If you want to have different Joomla! template (JomSocia doesn't use templates... it's rather a layout, files that control JS content display) you need to download (there are a lot of free Joomla! templates out in The Internet). Then install it like any other Joomla! extension and set for JomSocial menu item. Joomla! will load your secondary template for all pages with that menu item.
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

You need only ONE frontpage JomSocial link. You may change it title to something that fits you more.
If you want to add more JS related menu items, rather use menu item alias and point to appropriate menu item in JomSocial Toolbar.
JomSocial display list of groups but doesn't provide separated menu item to link to certain groups - you'll need to create external URL menu item and paste URL to certain group.
You may have as many groups as you need. There is no limitation ;)
