I've recently encountered what would now seem to be a stupid error that already one moderator saw fit to blame the user for the error in the JOMSOCIAL redirect plugin, strange that it had been working fine for many months up until JOMSOCIAL UPDATE v4.2 was installed.... That's when everything started going wrong AGAIN. Yet it seems that according to this moderator, the user has configured the plugin wrong, how so when prior to updating JOMSOCIAL it was FINE!
I guess it must be my fault too that this plugin should suddenly spring a fault out of nowhere, it couldn't have been JOMSOCIAL update to blame surely, like not for modifying the Jomsocial menu links so the plugin no longer associates the home link as valid and fails to log the user in.
The only combination of settings in the JomSocial redirect plugin that would get my login process functioning again, was to DISABLE IT! after a number of late night FRUSTRATING HOURS!
Do you actually test the installation BEFORE releasing it into the wild. If you suggest that I should TEST JomSocial out offline first to eliminate these bugs, Why oh Why do you offer an online in-Joomla installer??????
Hi Zurkster,
Would you mind provide me the bug clearly please? please provide the steps to replicate it and what happens next ( with screenshoot ) ?
of course, we test version before we released it, we test jomsocial redirect plugin as well, but maybe on some installation can be different, so I need to know the clear steps regarding this issue :)

Late this evening I updated Jomsocial using the installer, which failed to complete the installation, So alternatively I installed Jomsocial's ONLY copy v4.2 and installed it via the Joomla installer as suggested in another post on the same subject as this fault.
I have not been able to log in under any username configuration into the frontend of the site, and users are emailing me at 5am complaining that they cannot login!
I replicated the advice the Michal had offered to another JS user in the support forum, but to no avail, however when I DISABLE the Jomsocial redirect plugin, the login process is successful but redirects the user to the Joomla profile page instead of Jomsmocial's selection, which has been perfectly functional up until the JomSocial core update this evening.
Providing you with the login details is a somewhat lengthy process due to the fact we have multi-tier administration security installed.
As far as a screenshot goes, what would I capture precisely? a failed login attempt and a redirect back to the home page?
That domain and server was hack just before Christmas, we had to rebuild the entire project on our second mentioned domain in our JS account. As I stated earlier, it's 05:51am here and I am extremely tired, this has been a very frustrating and time consuming error and seems to be a fault with Jomsocial and the system jomsocial redirect plugin. I have disabled it for now and the site now operates fine. at least logins are functioning once again. Please get your thinking caps on before I return after a long overdue sleep. I'm sure you have encountered quite a few more complaints about this very same error, three or more already!
I will draw information and a possible remedy to this at a later date.
Ok so next please provide me the site which I can test? I need to know the error detail, I need test it on your site, since we dont have any problem with this on our installation.
thank you
Surely by now with so many complaints all around the same issue, there must be another way to establish the fault?
the mistake already be fixed on another topic forum, some of them already have the patch on it..
regarding user can't login can be fixed on here
www.jomsocial.com/forum/installation/332...social-upgrad#160631
on next release we will completely fix the issues, but still on software development we cant make sure free bugs 100% :)
OK access to the server side file system is awkward for me and considering the fix is so stupidly small, you could have posted the fix here on your forum, INSTEAD OF PASSING THE BUCK and redirecting me you should release a simple fix to alter the three ERRONEOUS lines of code in the redirect plugin.
Albertus explained that the below code required just two small adjustments. However I have heard again that it was a user issue.
I AM SICK TO DEATH OF HEARING THIS KNEE JERK RESPONSE EVERY TIME I PRESENT A SUPPORT REQUEST.
WE PAY YOU FOR SUPPORT. WE RARELY ASK FOR SUPPORT AND RESPONDED TO WITH COMPLACENCY AND INCOMPETENCY TOWARDS CUSTOMER HANDLING.
It was clearly a coding error when your updater replaced files and broke an otherwise stable installation, Then to be told it must be a user error in the plugin settings.... You didn't receive an error because according to Albertus it was a Joomla update that was the cause. REALLY!
I am not going to waste my time hunting down two lines of code, just to fix something you could fix with an immediate release update.
OH I forgot your updater doesn't function correctly either. So it would have to be a manual update for many. Last question how long before you present us PAYING CUSTOMERS with a proper solution.
Errors in three string statements....
$credentials = $jinput->get('username');
$credentials = $jinput->get('passwd');
if ($credentials == '') {
//try to detect for joomla 1.6, 17
$credentials = $jinput->get('password');
to
$credentials = $jinput->getString('username');
$credentials = $jinput->getString('passwd');
if ($credentials == '') {
//try to detect for joomla 1.6, 17
$credentials = $jinput->getStrinng('password')
