Is there an option to only show the data from the community if the user is logged in? Basically if the person visiting the site doesn't have an account or is not logged in, I don't want them to see what's going on.

The easiest way is you create Jomsocial home menu, and set the menu for registered only.

Actually when you install jomsocial the jomsocial menu already on Main Menu, you just modify it and set access to registered only.
