I am experiencing the same problem: update process stuck in updating database stage. I ran the SQL that was provided to another user with this same problem:

ALTER TABLE `jos_community_files` ADD `profileid` INT NULL DEFAULT '1' ;

but go this error:

#1060 - Duplicate column name 'profileid'

Please advise.
