Hi Gavin,
have you checked on mailq, which the all 100 email status is not "pending" anymore, once you run one cron ?
thank you!
Hiya, I don't get that much activity, I only caught it by chance as I was actually looking at the queue at the same time they had sent the invite. Pages of them were marked as processed within moments of me refreshing. The cron is set to trigger every 5 minutes on the hour and send 40 emails. There were a lot more than 40 sent between the two crons :s
It could be a one off thing, im going to make a dummy account this week, add a lot of people, and then invite them to a new group and see how it goes.
Hi Gavin,
I test it with small total email and everything is working fine, I think if you server can handle it and all email being sent, so you shouldnt be worried abour this.
thank you!
Hi there,
I've been unable to find out what is going wrong, as my site is getting increasingly active (yay!).
However, there *is* something up with jomsocial not throttling emails. As I have a large number of these sitting in my inbox...

Subject: Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
******@live.com
Domain *****.net has exceeded the max emails per hour (500/500 (100%)) allowed. Message discarded.
Hi Gavin,
Some of your members maybe already removed their email, and email is no exist anymore.
thank you
Hi there, you could be right, but them type of emails have the text that the inbox is unavailable/full or not exist.
The problem I am having is the emails I am getting is because my host is refusing to send them because I have gone over the 500 allowed in an hour, (exceeded the max emails per hour)
I get a block of these whenever it goes over 500 within an hour, all with the exact time stamp - they are coming directly from my host which is refusing to send more than 500.
If 543 emails are sent - 43 of them emails come back to me with the exact same message:
******@live.com (these are different email addresses live, outlook, yahoo etc)
Domain *****.net has exceeded the max emails per hour (500/500 (100%)) allowed. Message discarded. (*****.net is where jomsocial is)
I know your English isn't perfect, but maybe now I have explained clearer? =)
Hi gavin,
Please try go to WHM >> Main >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings >> Mail >> Max hourly emails..
I think you should contact your sys-admin, seems this issue caused by send email limitation by your mail server.
Or you should upgrade your server to VPS, I am not really sure about this, the only way is contact your sys-admin for getting further information:)
thank you
Where can I find WHM?
Is there a problem with Jomsocial not respecting the 40 setting in default.ini ?
There are not many hosts that allow more than 500 per hour, hence that's why I wanted to change the setting in the ini file...
Is it a jomsocial bug? can it be fixed in a soon future release? If so, I need not worry. If not, then I'm going to have problems very soon :/
Hi Gavin,
You should contact your sys-admin / hosting provider for WHM.
This is not Jomsocial bug, this is mail server configuration issue. For fixing this you can set the totalmailpercron to the less value, eg 40 or 100.
thank you

Hi Gavin,
Please you check your table __community_config, look on param field, and search the JSON paramater, do you find "totalmailpercron" or not? if yes, you can set the value from there.
Or the another solution you can tweak the mail server configuration like I said on the reply above :)
cheers!
Thank you for that, it was set at 150! I have changed the value to 40 and will see if there are any further issues =)
I see many settings in the database, so I wonder, is the default.ini now redundant?
It might be useful to have all of these settings in an 'advanced' or 'expert' mode in jomsocial where all these settings can be displayed for people like myself who are not too good at admin SQL :)
I will see if this works.
Incidentally, it seems that most of the failed messages were from a user sending 100's of group invites in one go :)
