Best Practice for Cron Job Frequency

Hello, I'm running the cron job on linux, on my own dedicated server, at 5 minute intervals. I'd like users to get their emails fast and outside of server load is there any issue w/ sub 1 minute intervals. What do you recommend? I'm almost thinking of moving it down to every 10 seconds. Would conflicts occur at that interval? Conflicts calling that PHP script to be run every 10 seconds.

wget -O /dev/null " www.domain.com/index.php?option=com_community&task=cron " > /dev/null

Please advise and thank you.

Hi Jonathan,

I suggest you to put cron job interval every 5 minute, because some process can take more then 1 minute.
If you want user get they email fast, you set it at jomsocial backend > configuration > site, and set Send Email on Page Load to Yes.

So just to double check, that backend "Send Email on Page Load" option won't conflict w/ the cron job if I have them running at the same time?
