Want to Upgrade Jomsocial without losing database contents
I installed jomsocial in July 2014 and I wanted to upgrade but was bit hesitant since I'm new to joomla & jomsocial and I don't want to loose database contents.
I have few queries:
1)Will I loose database contents if I do a joomla or jomsocial upgrades ?
2)Will I loose my jomsocial settings or customizations ?
3)Will I loose code changes made to jomsocial ?
I clicked on the jomsocial upgrade button and now am not able to go back to jomsocial. Even I try logging into joomla again but when I click on the jomsocial menu in the components tab I'm moved to jomsocial installation page as shown in the attachment. I want to access the jomsocial site management page. Do help me out ASAP
1. No, no data will be lost in database. But remember ALWAYS make a safe copy before you upgrade anything in Joomla!
2. No, you will not loose any JomSocial settings as they are stored in database. As for customizations - all depends how you made them. Did you used overrides (create overrides for component view in template) or you created own template in ROOT/components/com_community/templates. So if you've made your customizations correct, then you have nothing to worry about.
3. Answer is the same as for question no. 2. depends how did you made changes. Any core files hack will be overwritten. Only properly made overrides will be safe.
Yes, when you started upgrade the only way to rolled it back will be removing files from files structure - to prevent loading installer. But even now you could make copy of hacked core files - if any.
