Hi, Cynthia.
The best way to upgrade JomSocial is to remove it completely and install latest version. Database and data gathered there will be not touched so nothing will be lost.
Only if you made core files hack or do override in wrong way - those customizations could be lost (as everything from folder com_community is removed). If you made overrides properly - that is by coping customized files to template html folder they will be safe... but may not work with current release (depend what changes you've made).
Also you need to make sure that you have 3rd party extensions that have integration with JomSocial are updated too so they could work without issues after JomSocial upgrade. This apply also to template if it was dedicated to JomSocial.
This method apply to upgrades trough minor versions (e.g JomSocial 3.1.x.x to 3.2.x.x). Small hot fixes doesn't require uninstalling whole JomSocial and can be installed on top of existing version using package or iJoomla installer.
Here are exact steps :
UPGRADE
0. Make a safe copy of your whole system (files and database)
1. Browse to Backend -> Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Manage
2. Search all extensions using filter "com"
3. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
4. Search all extensions using filter "jom"
5. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
6. Download latest JomSocial package from here:
www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses
7. Unzip it
8. Install com_community package via Joomla! installer
9. Follow installation steps
10. Install iJoomla installer for future version check and upgrade.
After that you'll need to do a menu fix also:
When you upgrading JomSocial menu items in JomSocial toolbar lost "connection" with component. Joomla! mark them as disabled and with notice: "Component 'com_community' does not exist". In order to fix it please follow this instruction:
- click on menu item in JomSocial menu in order to edit it
- when in edit mode don't change anything
- save
- menu item should be fixed
- do it for every JomSocial related menu items (if needed) in all other menus
Hi, Cynthia.
Please, edit your first post and enter credentials and link under: Test/Development Site ;)
I've tried to access test site backend and I get 404... I'm not sure it URL was fine...
Hi, Cynthia.
Issue was caused by XIUS Community Plugin - it's probably outdated.
I commented this line (line 9) in index.php of your template as it caused fatal error:
//$socialIcons = $toolbar_lib->getIconHTML();
In addition, your overrides for JomSocial are also outdated... and cause fatal errors.
Some related with activity stream... I tried to disable them... but finally just commented out whole folder in overrides.
JomSocial is fully functional.
Dear michal,
I thought that by adding the new JS in the way that you did, would override all modifications. That was not a problem to me.
Where did you commented the folder.. what folder to be exact? And when i now login.. i get a white page.. So something is going wrong..
I have disabled 2 modules that where preventing the normal loading of the website. However... the styling of my page is now messy... Could you only tell me what folder you commented out?
You are sure that Jom Social now has a normal behavior?
Hi, Cynthia.
I commented out com_community folder to com_community-old in your main template html folder.
I'm not sure why template become messy... In code I see:
<l-ink rel="stylesheet" href="/templates/theme1395/css/templatestyle.css" type="text/css" />
Above file has most of styling for your site.
<m-eta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0"/>
<s-cript type="text/j-avascript">
As you see, for some reason... something added - "s-cript".
I've tried to edit your index.php of current template... but I can't. It always reverted to previous state. Try to change it via FTP.
