Welcome the Technical Support section. Help us in assisting you by providing us with a concise and descriptive elaboration of your issues. Be specific and if possible, provide us with a step-by-step instruction in replicating your problem.
Windows Server 2008 R2
Intel D865 Perl motherboard (circa 2002)
2.8 GHz Pentium 4 (HT)
4GB RAM DDR2
32 bit
PHP 5.3 installed
MySQLi 5.6
The server runs fine as there is no users on it except me, I've installed Joomla 3 and the site is responsive and quick - I've installed Kunena Forum and that also works nice and quick. As soon as I've installed JomSocial the website is so slow I can only assume that all visitors would simple hit the back button and bounce.
I've tried disabling the template I'm using (still slow).
The PHP.ini file on the server has all the recommended settings ( max_input_time 300 etc)
CPU usuage seems to jump from 2 - 40% every 2 seconds or so, and the physical memory is < 35% usage.
My question is, is this likely to be hardware related - or are there some optimization tricks in PHP or SQL that I can do to get the site (which at the moment is just a test framework) to run at a decent and responsive speed?
I passed your question to our developers.
I'll update you with their answer...
- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.
- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you

Thank you for your reply. Yes I know the hardware is *very* old - and yes my Nexus 4 is probably more powerful (I'm guessing the devs had a good laugh at the specs ;)
But the question has been answered - if you'd have said "no the hardware requirements are low" I would know my problem was more configuration than hardware.
This said, I tried JomSocial on my hosted server after my post and it works super fast! Looks like my in-house test server is in dire need of a hardware upgrade!
