Walk us through a "Patch" Process please

I for one am NOT experienced at doing this, and so I would assume there are others too who are afraid to break their site. I need to install a patch upgrade and don't know where to begin to do so.

For those of us who are not coders, programmers, or just plain inexperienced...could you please walk us through how to do a "patch" upgrade? What if we have customizations? Where do we begin? I bought the actual JomSocial license, so not sure that I have an IJoomla Installer that I see mentioned elsewhere.

Thank you for the help!

Hi Theresa,

well, hard to update jomsocial if you have some customizations jobs, because it will be replaced with the newest patch.

For upgrading via patch, you only need to extract that patch file, and all folders copy/upload to your root joomla.. done.

I hope it will help.

thank you

apparently i must not understand the process and how to properly patch.....it doesnt seem to be working........mike dluzak said he would pop in and explain since he helped me put my site together from the start........anyways, patiently waiting (been awhile since i first posted this, and i sort of gave up for a bit).

Thanks for the response,

I spent time tonight trying, and did exactly as that document says to do.......backend still says i am running .3 instead of .5

i think you misunderstand, even after reading that document, my brain apparently can not wrap around the idea of the process.

i have tried to drag and drop...shows an index type of system if i do that
i have tried to upload, it puts the folder inside the same folder (ie components goes IN components)
it won't let me upload proper, nothing seems to be working to complete the patch.

Hi, Therese.

I think the best solution here will be to use FTP client like FileZilla:
filezilla-project.org/download.php?type=client

Download and install it.

Then set ftp connection: wiki.filezilla-project.org/FileZilla_Client_Tutorial_%28en%29

Then you'll be able to move your folders in files structure.
But better delete folder ROOT/administrator/administrator and upload it again to ROOT folder.

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
