what are the steps to install language packs for frontend and then make available on front end the option to choose the language for the user?

Hi, Marc.

Many depends in what form you have langauge files.
If they are in form that could be installed then you do install like any other extension for Joomla! via Joomla! installer.

If you have ini files then you just upload them to ROOT/language/your language e.g en-GB/ ini files.

Here you have tutorial how to make Joomla! multilanguage.

Please note for future that this is JOMSOCIAL support forum. If your question or request apply to overall Joomla! usage than ask on Joomla! forum: forum.joomla.org/ or search Internet for answer ;)

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

JomSocial Expired Socialize Expired

Hi Michal.

sorry my question was not clear: I was asking about setting Jomsocial and not Joomla for multilanguage.
It looks like the translation file are just .ini files (french and portuguese), but I have there are several points that are unclear to me:

-What are the steps I should take to make Jomsocial multilanguage ?
-Where should I install the ini files (for backend and frontend)? I could see that most language packs have files separated into 2 folders: site and admin or frontend and backend, but for both the name of the file is the same (for instance: es-ES.com_community.ini). Is there 2 diferent folders in the Jomsocial install files on my FTP?
-How can a user choose the language of Jomsocial on frontend?

Thanks
Marc

Hi, Marc.

You don't set a language separately for JomSocial.
You install language in Joomla! and store language files in Joomla! language folder.
JomSocial will obey joomla! rules for language.
You can set default language for Joomla!
If you allow users to set language for their Joomla! account - they could have Joomla (and thus jomSocial) in set language).

Or everything is translated via language switch module. Just like described in articled I provided you.
