Hi there,
we want to update jomsocial.
But we did many changes in languages and in User-Profile !
When we do an update ... these data are still exists ? or do we lost all of our changes !?
how is the right way to do update !? is there any update file !? or should we install new version over existing !?
regards
Hi Ewebs,
Your change only on language? you can backup your language version and do upgrading like usual, then replace the newest language with your own language.
once you upgrade the package, all modified code will be replaced with the newest one, so please be carefull for this.. simply you download the newest package from here
www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses
and install directly, or you install it via iJoomla installer... more information please read here
documentation.jomsocial.com/wiki/Installation
thank you
Hi.
All depends HOW you did your customizations.
If you used template overrides then you should nothing to worry about.
But if you changed files direct in JomSocial structure (without overrides) or done a core files hack - then you need to have safe copy of modified files.
The same is for language. If you changed language file - then need to make safe copy of changed file.
You always could use Joomla! language override feature:
www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/joom...ew-language-override
No data - I mean data in data base - will be lost. But it's a good practice to make safe copy of whole system before upgrade.
Event in best system something could go wrong.
This is the best way to do upgrade:
Follow this instruction:
0. Make a safe copy of your whole system (files and database)
1. Browse to Backend -> Extensions -> Extension Manager -> Manage
2. Search all extensions using filter "com"
3. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
4. Search all extensions using filter "jom"
5. Uninstall all JomSocial related extensions
6. Download latest JomSocial package from here:
www.jomsocial.com/component/digistore/licenses
7. Unzip it
8. Install com_community package via Joomla! installer
9. Follow installation steps
10. Install iJoomla installer for future version check and upgrade.
Hi thanks for your answer...
we did NOT only changes in language.
we also did changes in profiles .. add new fields and multilanguages like that :
{lang en}Change Profile Video{/lang}{lang sr}Promeni profilni video{/lang}{lang de}Profilvideo ändern{/lang}
or in profile :
Gruppen COM_COMMNUITY_GROUP_INTERESSEN_HOBBYS
1 COM_COMMUNITY_DEINE_INTERESSEN
2 COM_COMMUNITY_SONSTIGES
but think this one will be handled from language file !?
so can i update jomsocial ... sure before i do update i safe language files ...
how about language override ? can i store the changes there also or will there be any conflicts .. when there are double entrys !?
in normal language file and override ?
regards
Michael
Hi.
Language overrides have higher priority than strings in ini files. So, no, there will be no conflict.
JomSocial language file will be overwritten during installation.
So I advise move your language changes to language overrides in Joomla - in future they will be safe there.
As for other changes - a I said: if it was done by overrides, you have nothing to worry about.
If not, then make a safe copy of customized files.
Hi Michael,
i did update now .. .but cant go into site administration after update .. getting blank site.
( have made complete backup now - back to old version )
what is the problem when i update .. why do i have NO Backend after !?
Installation runs without any error ...

Hi, Michael.
Edit configuration.php in Joomla! main folder.
Change:
public $error_reporting = 'default';
to
public $error_reporting = 'maximum';
Error will be displayed. Post it here.
i did it again ...
frontend is running ...
backend ... after login white screen ...
configuration.php is modified - public $error_reporting = 'maximum';
you can check by yourself.
<Removed for security reason>
Update ::: no error messages ... !!! i am not sure that works in backend !!??
Hi.
Please, check now... It's up again ^^.
