If user types in numerical for vertical jump as "33"

Then I think the search will work

If user types in numerical for vertical jump as "33in" or "33 in" or "33 inches"

Then the advanced search will not find them.

This means the searcher would have to type in exactly verbatim "33in" to find the user?

I tested this and the equal to and not equal to in advanced search will not work either.

You misconfigured your profiled fields.
For some text fields like Vertical jump you set type as "password".
Search will be not performed in this type of field. Change it to text and search start to work.

I changed it for vertical jump and entered 33 - try search now. It's enough to set:

Vertical jump + Contains + 33 and you'll find profile Support :)

MIchal thanks for catching that I certainly didnt set it as type password intentionally.

However this is what I am trying to accomplish.
A coach is searching for an athlete with a vertical jump of 30 inches or more, or less than 30 inches.
He enters advanced search
He of course has no idea what that the athlete Messi entered "33 inches" in the vertical jump field of his profile.

Search 1. He selects criteria vertical jump: contains: 3:
The search will return Messi and any other athlete who has the number 3 in this field including 13 or 23 which of course is not above 30

Search 2. He selects criteria vertical jump: equal: 3:
The search will not return Messi only an athlete who has only and exactly the number 3 in this field

Search 3. He selects criteria vertical jump: not equal: 3:
The search will return Messi and every athlete who has not entered only the number 3 in this field, is that correct?

I am also guessing I should restrict these fields to numerical perhaps allowing a decimal point so that hter is no confusion between inches or in or pounds and lbs?
How can I do that?

Yes, you are correct, that's how logical operators work.
Well you can add information what units are used in certain fields... but you can't restrict it. So it's up to your members if they enter correct values in correct units.

In this case you'll need a search range so you could set from x to y - just like age search in dating search module.

As for now you can't do it out-of-the-box. You'll need a developer to customize form for you: www.jomsocial.com/jomsocial-developers
