I created my test backup of my working Joomla install on the same server under a different domain name (obviously).
Uninstalled JomSocial on the backend by doing a search for all community files - clicked uninstall.
Now the backend is completely unusuable. Anything I click on I get ERROR JomSocial is not installed on your site~
Front end has the same error visible to users.
Keep in mind that I am following your rules for upgrading and testing a site.
Hi, Craig.
I checked your file system and it seems that you haven't removed all JomSocial related extensions.
Some of them left (in system folder) and probably throws this error.
Other explanation is that some other 3rd party extensions related with JomSocial wasn't uinstalled (that's obvious as we didn't suggest that) but perform some kind of check if JomSocial is present in your system.
I tried to upload JomSocial backend and frontend files to pretend that it's still present but in vain (now I'm removing those files).
So, could you restore it to start point and then I 'll try to remove JomSocial?
I can't remove all of them because while uninstalling them it threw the error. I check marked all files with community but have not gotten to the 3 that I need to search marked as jomsocial.
Not sure why JomSocial would take down the entire Joomla backend because a few JomSocial files still remain. What does JomSocial do to the core that causes a major collapse like this?
I need to do a full Akeeba restore again in order to do this. This happened to me last week which brought my entire site down for two days. I have never had a problem doing upgrades in the 4 years until JomSocial 3.2.0.4 came along. I have no third party extensions on top of JomSocial and have not changed the code.
I'm following your instructions to do a upgrade to 3.2.0.5. This version causes issues. I will do the 5 hour restore process using Akeeba but will install 3.2.0.5 on top of 3.2.0.4 because of the issue of that release.
I'm only reporting this because this is the 4th time I've had to deal with this.
Hi, Craig.
I upgraded my own installation same way - by uninstalling extensions first. First I remove all extensions with filter "com" and then with "jom". And never had this issue. But you have JFBC plugin, right? It's 3rd party extension related to JomSocial. I'm not saying that it caused this crash but it may perform some checks if JomSocial filesystem is present.
So could be try again? I just figured out that when this happens we could try to disable plugins directly in database.
