JomSocial Expired

I installed 3.2.0.2 onto my Joomla 3.2 site and the install went fine but nothing much worked.
Tagging barely worked, displaying the wrong names no matter what I did.

For example, I put in @art which is one of the member names but it showed me a list of some of the members whose names start with A but never art even when I typed it as a, ar or art.

Then I tried the URL fetching and nothing worked again. Only the text I entered and the URL itself showed up but no preview image or anything else.

Tagging is also not working in the kunena forums which is a highlight on any forum driven site so I am not sure if this is a JS or Kunena issue since I do have the integration plugins.

Anyhow, I know you are trying hard but I cannot afford to be beta tester so will not be able to provide much help because I had to downgrade.

What I certainly would welcome is some documentation on new versions either AS you put them out or before so that we could familiarize ourselves with how to use the new functions. After installing, it was a guessing game of looking through the net only to find tons of marketing materials and videos but no documentation.

Anyhow, keep up the good work, I look forward to knowing where you put the documentation.

Hi Mike,

thanks for your response about Jomsocial 3.2.0.2... can you open development server for me to test your issue? because i can't replicate it on my local.. we did a lot of automation unit testing (Fresh Joomla 3.2.1 + Jomsocial 3.2.0.1 without another plugins or module installation) to made perfect jomsocial to release and we got everythings fine on testing.. maybe this can be by 3rd party or another issue..

Warm regards,

David

I have already moved back to the backups as too many things were not working. I will test it more when I get a chance.

No, I was not able to help test this time but I have been a customer for a very long time and have helped many many times before by using RC releases etc and trying to solve problems.

This time, I cannot afford that nor do I have the time so we'll see how things go.

BTW, is there anything special needed which might cause the problems I mentioned? Are any of the new features java based or anything like that?

Thanks.

Hi Mike,

Our tag system based on your setting on jomsocial backend > configuration > layout > Display Name.. if you set this to "Username" you only can tag using username and vice versa.. there is no special settings or anything to make tag friend work on your site :)

about fetching URL, after you type the URL, you must add whitespace (or move your cursor focus into "Say something" field) after type so the URL fetching start to fetch.. if this is still not work on your side, maybe you can inspect on your server or connection side because i ever got same problem with you on my local.. on my local, my events map doesnt show because my internet connection..

About kunena issue, we still doing on kunena integration with jomsocial since kunena developer stopped develop this plugins to integrated with jomsocial (since kunena ver 3 if i'm not wrong) you can see this compabilty on kunena site :)

About 3.2 documentation, our documentation team still working on this because there are a lot of changes made on jomsocial 3.2 so they must update all of documentation about jomsocial :)

Warm Regards,

David

I have always had this set to Username. Sorry, I am not sure what you mean above?

Ok, so the plugin will come from you and not kunena then?

Hi Mike,

i mean, if you set that setting (Display Name) with username on jomsocial backed, you must enter user's username to do a tagging.. if you change that settings to "Real Name" you only can enter user's real name on tagging..

i think yes because our developer never told me until now.. maybe will include on installer :) if developer has been told me, i will let you know :)

Warm Regards,

David

I am still not completely clear on your answer but I think you are saying that the integration solution will come from JS.

I have to say it is much nicer communicating with you than the moderator/s at the kunena forums. That person seems to have an unhealthy need to show off, one sided unfortunately since he is the moderator after all.

He points out the obvious which is that there is no user tagging at the moment. Gee, that's why I posted the question, to know where I should be looking.

www.kunena.org/forum/11-JomSocial/130561...n-and-tagging#155787

His answers are always somewhat more confusing than much else. I don't quite understand the relationship between JS and kunena but he always seems to be defensive for some strange reason. Are you both not working together? If not, should I be looking for another forum which would integrate better with JS and also where you work together so that I don't have to ask anything in the kunena forums?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your compliment to :D i really appreciate that :)

i already read the link that you gave me :) he denied about kunena compability, so here is the link directly from their site www.kunena.org/docs/Kunena_Add-ons as you see on that link, on kunena version 3, on Kunena Groups Plug-in for JomSocial they put "NO" on that table and also give explaination with number [1] there..

If you asked about user tagging on kunena, i'm sure they don't have it :) if you want to integrate tagging with kunena, i'm not sure right now if our developer are working for this feature on kunena...

We are not working together mike :) just ask here about Jomsocial and if your issue about kunena, and we can't help you out (since our support staff don't know kunena in-depth) you can ask on kunena forum :)

Warm regards,

David

I have been considering getting rid of kunena because asking for help there is like wanting to be insulted.

Do you (JS) support another forum addon perhaps? Or will in the future, which will take advantage of all of the nice new JS features?

So who decides on building proper integrations then? How does a joomla owner know which forum package to pick if not many authors are willing to work together to offer proper integration?

Sure makes things complicated no? Now if kunena is not going to bother working with jomsocial, it means that as JS comes up with new features that don't work in the forums, those features become useful only in the status areas and not much more.
