My question now is how and where the user can log in via the internal Joomla registration?

You need to disabled the joomla registration page and redirect it to Jomsocial page, use this plugin to achive this extensions.joomla.org/extensions/extensi...ial-extensions/19320

use the plugin which I mentioned above, it will disabled the joomla registration page and every user who go to Joomla registration page will be redirected to jomsocial registration page
