There is a sad thing with Guru: we cannot customise the template, not even the color.

Are you going to add the possibility for more customisation or more templates in the next version of Guru ?

Certainly you can.
All can be changed using css. Also layout overrides should work.

Could you tell me how you tried to change layout? And what exactly you want to change?

No, Guru doesn't have "temples" like JomSocial.
If you want to do some customizations - you need to do them by layout overrides and/or css tweaks.

To change colors:

.uk-alert {
background: #ccc !important;
}

.uk-button-success {
background: #aaa !important;
