ISSUE SUMMARY:
When I edit and save a course, I get the message "This name or alias is already used, choose another one!". So I have to change the name, save it, open it again, edit the name and save.
Kind of irritating... :)

Fix?

Hi, Bosse.

Elements can't have the same name ergo the same alias.
Just like menu items in the same menu can't have the same alias - this is Joomla! limitation used to avoid URL issues (as each element need to have unique alias... in other case two or more elements with the same alias will cause conflict - which one to display?).

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

I understand and know that. But if have a course named "Course 1", and I need to edit something (like change the cover image), I don't create a new course, I just edit an existing one. Which means I need the name and alias to stay as it is.
It seem to me a bit strange that I have to change the name "Course 1" to "Course 1a", save it and then open it for editing the name back again.

Hi, Bosse.

Ah, you mean existing element.. yes... that's a bit strange as element already exist... does system treat it like saving a new one?
I assign Guru developer to this thread.

Oki.
No, it doesn't treat it as a new one. I mean, it doesn't create a new "Course 1a" and still have "Course 1". "Course 1" disappear and is replaced with "Course 1a".

Hi,

I just created a new course - "iJoomla Test" and I can edit and save this course without issue, I can add new image and no need to add a new name/alias.
Please advise.

Strange..

I opened the course "30 sockerfria dagarold", changed the teacher from Rolf to iJoomla and clicked "Save & Close".
Didn't work. Got the usual error message (see attached)
Did the same with your test course "iJoomla Test". Same result.

So here it doesn't work...

Hi,

I still can't replicate this, I made custom changes in guru files:
"administrator/components/com_guru/views/guruprograms/tmpl/editform.php"
"components/com_guru/views/guruauthor/tmpl/authoraddcourse.php"
and now you should not receive that alert message. But please make a back-up to these files before upgrade to next version.

Great!

What about when these files are changes for any update? Can you let me know what you did, so I can do it if and when needed?

Sorry, something else happened when you edited the file. Now I can't upload any cover photo for course...
It's a perfectly ordinary jpg file, so no wong with the image.

Hi,

I just tested, and I can add images for courses, for categories... How can I replicate your issue?
