Hi,

Is it possible to hide some of the categories from the group category list when making a group?

Could this be done with a nodisplay function?

Hey Albertus,

Thanks for all your replies, you've been a great help so far.

Okay, so to start off here is my current understanding...

The current options in JS for group creation are:

1. disable all group creation
2. allow all group creation
3. allow all group creation with approval
4. allow group creation for certain profiles only
5. allow group creation for certain profiles only with approval

However, these option have no bearing on Jomsocial group categories (this will be implemented with JS ACL?). Users can either create groups or they can't.

Basically we're stuck in limbo at the moment until Jomsocial 4.5 comes out with the ACL. With our project we need registered users to be able to create their own groups easily but there are some group categories which we don't want them to be able to create groups in.

This is easier to explain with an example...

Group category A is for registered users to create groups in (all profiles) and Group category B relates to a particular part of our company we are using to present information (we don't want users creating new groups in category B, only administrators).

I'm sure you can see the problem here that either we scrap half our project until JS ACL comes out or it is going to be nightmare for both users and admins once the ACL does come out as groups would then have to be moved into the right places. We could go down the route of all groups need approval at creation but I'm sure you're aware this has a detrimental effect of user interaction.

Using our example above, a temporary work around could be to simply remove or hide group category B from the list on the group creation page so only category A is available for users to create groups in. This would mean our administrators can create the groups for category B, implement the work around, and then users can only create groups in the right place (category A) in preparation for when the ACL comes out.

Does this make sense?

HI.

This could be cone only by a customization. I understand what you need here but currently JomSocial doesn't have such a feature.
Also we don't provide support for customizations like this.
Please, read our Support Policy - especially remarks what we do and don't support at document bottom: www.jomsocial.com/support

Consider to hire professional developer to help you with implementing this feature: www.upwork.com/groups/jomsocial

- Instead of saying: 'it's not working', explain the problem in detail.
- Screenshots with the URL visible in them and the problem marked are more than welcome.
- Tell us how to replicate the problem, we can't fix it if we can't find it.
- Make sure that your site/server meets JomSocial System Requirements
- Make sure to setup JomSocial Cron Job
- Always provide us with access details to the backend and ftp. We need it to debug problems.
- If you have a similar problem, but a solution you found isn't working, open a new thread instead of 'merging' with an existing one.

- Use the "Thank You" feature on any post that helped you
